HERSHEY - After battling its way into the Giant Center, the Clearfield Wrestling team saw its placement round hopes fade away with a 42-16 loss to Central Mountain in the consolation round of the PIAA Team Duals Wrestling Championships on Friday night in Hershey.

Central Mountain brought a team that was then 11-1 on the season and third in the state to the mat. Individually, eight Wildcat wrestlers had claimed spots in either the PA Power Rankings or the PA Wrestling standings.

Bison Heavyweight Sean Owen won the dual's featured bout, defeating Wildcat Zach Corl by a 12-4 major decision and putting his team ahead by one early on.

Corl entered the bout with a 27-3 record that included 19 falls on the season. He's currently ranked sixth in the PA Power Rankings and seventh in the PA Wrestling standings.

Owen, on the other hand, kept his perfect record intact at 32-0 with the win.

In the next bout, Clearfield's Shane Peters snuck out a 2-0 decision over Central Mountain's Forrest Bechdel.

Bechdel, who is a returning state qualifier, sits in the 19th spot in the Pennsylvania Wrestling Rankings.

Teammate Kodie Lowder followed suit with a decision of his own, beating Joey Miller 5-3 at 112 pounds.

Clearfield would get back on the scoreboard two bouts later, when senior Holden Lowe pulled out a 3-1 decision in overtime, giving his team its last lead of the night, 13-11.

Unfortunately for the Bison, Central Mountain would win six of the last seven, including four by fall.

Senior Shawn Hall would pick up his team's last win - a 3-0 decision - over Tyler Buckwalter at 160 pounds.

Clearfield returns to action at home for senior night against Curwensville on Tuesday.
